Interrupting Soliloquy

I have been more or less indifferent or wildly opinionated by the New Eighth Doctor Adventures, which seemed to be struggling deeply over the change in format and the need to be somewhat separated from the monthly Doctor Who line. By this point they seemed to have gotten the hang of properly pacing their individual stories and were attempting to figure out how to do series long arcs, and they never really managed to fix that before they ended the New EDA line. However, they demonstrated time and time again that the old two hour long format was working great for everyone and Lucie Miller/To the Death is one of the greatest examples of this. Though the Doctor Who TV show has gotten a bit predictable with its use of Daleks, something about Big Finish has allowed the writers to be as creative and as terrible with Daleks as they see fit. Daleks are and continue to be terrifying and scary in the audios where the TV series seem to fall short and never was that better demonstrated than in Lucie Miller/To the Death, where they didn't so much focus on the horror that is Daleks, but rather upon the absolute devastation that Daleks wreak upon planets that they invade. There are a lot of things I didn't like about Series 4 of the New EDA, but Lucie Miller/To the Death just about made up for all the frustrations I felt over character inconsistencies and arcs (and golly did I have a LOT). It's strong in story, plot, emotions, it ties up character arcs admittedly rather shoddily, but if you ignore the fact that several episodes came before this and picture that Series 4 took place over some years with this as the conclusion, it is one hell of a bang to end on and it does it well. I recommend this audio to just about anyone who thinks that Daleks are a joke, because they demonstrate here that they are anything but.
